Bras, undies, free goodies... oh my!
What seventeen year old girly- girl wouldn't dream of attending an event in New York City to see the newest trends in the lingerie world? I certainly jumped at the chance to attend CURVES, an event that takes place twice a year and offers a preview of the “coming attractions” in the lingerie industry.
Below is an idea of what was in store for the day!
6:00 a.m.- I jumped out of bed in a flash, and for someone who loathes mornings, that means a lot.
6:45 a.m- A cup of coffee, and an adorable outfit later, I was boarding a train with Farrell and Randi (Owner and Employee of Jay Ann) all eager to begin a day we had anticipated for several months.
8:45 a.m.- We finally arrived! The Javits Center was much larger than I had imagined and filled with impeccably dressed women and men who did not seem nearly as eager as I did. I tried to control my excitement...
9:15 a.m- Badges: check! Beginning of free goodies: check! Feeling official and important: check! check!
9:30 a.m- All three of us entered heaven… well not quite but it sure did look that way! The enormous conference center was all white and divided up, giving each company their own cubical to show us their new fashions and their own models. Did I mention them yet? Models of all different shapes and sizes (Tiny to not-so-tiny to full figured) roamed the room dressed in the newest bras and panties from over 200 world-wide manufacturing displaying their upcoming collections. The variety of lingerie styles, colors, fabrication, patterns, accessories? Endless.
10:00 a.m. - Our first appointment for the day was with Wacoal. Our sales rep Deb (yes, we are on first name basis) was super sweet and showed us all the stunning new pieces for the spring. Pastel colored bras, free candy and a brand new translucent cosmetic bag, I knew I was in good hands! My favorite piece was the "embrace lace" set in Chinese red. We ordered some great sets for the new season!
12:00 p.m. We wandered around, checking out the new products from each company! It is almost overwhelming to see so many beautiful products and to keep it all straight. Ultimately, you need to keep in mind that a “buyer” needs to know what her clientele will like best.
12:30 a.m.- Another appointment, this time with Chantelle. They also offered beautiful intimates for even the curvier ladies out there!
3:00 p.m. - A quick lunch and more wandering before our last appointment of the day with Eveden, which is the parent company of Goddess, Elomi, Fantasie, Freya ect. Talk about selection! Big boobs, small waist? or large boobs and a more generous bottom?- no problem.
5:00 p.m.- The day is finally came to a close, and I am was now really regretting picking the "cuter" shoes that pinch my feet. Note to self: comfort first- this is work, exhausting work-
5:30 - We said our goodbyes, arms full of catalogs, line sheets, color charts, bags of goodies, heads full of ideas, and we begin our journey home.
Goodbye CURVES! See you in September!
